Services
As well as the routine dental fillings and hygiene work carried out at the practice, we also provide the following range of treatments:
Tooth coloured fillings
Tooth coloured fillings can be used to replace decay or to replace an existing silver filling. The enhanced cosmetics and quality of the material are the main benefits of tooth coloured fillings.
Teeth whitening
As a general rule, our teeth become darker as we become older. Many people would prefer their teeth to be whiter and they look at various whitening options. At the Ashcroft Dental Surgery, we carry out a ‘teeth whitening treatment’ which involves making custom fitting bleaching trays thus allowing the patient to carry out their treatment in their own home, after having received precise and clear instructions. These patients are kept under close supervision.
Crowns
Crowns are used to restore severely broken down teeth. There are many choices of crown materials and they all give function and durability. Porcelain crowns also give an enhanced cosmetic result as they give an appearance of a natural tooth.
Bridges
A bridge is basically a false tooth, created from porcelain fused to metal, that fills the gap left by a missing tooth, and is supported by adjacent teeth. There are many factors to consider, and many types of dental bridges. Time and care is taken to advise and inform the patient of all the options available to them. A well made and well placed dental bridge looks aesthetically pleasing and restores good function.
Veneers
A veneer is a new front surface for a tooth, custom made from porcelain. Veneers are often used to lighten tooth colour, to close gaps and to ‘correct the position’ of a tooth, by means of an illusion. Veneers can and do make a huge change to the smile of a patient.
Dentures
A denture is a removable prosthesis or appliance which is made to replace natural teeth. A lot of time and care is taken when planning the type of appliance, and when actually making it. The success of a denture relies on getting right a complex combination of many factors and here at the Ashcroft Dental Surgery we spend a lot of time with our patients to help them make informed decisions with the confidence required.
Childrens teeth
Our aim is to avoid tooth decay and our mission begins very early in a childs life by providing information on the importance of diet, as well as general advice about weaning and teething. With all children it is important to establish good oral hygiene practice as early as possible so as to prevent the development of common gum disease in later childhood and teenage years. Where a child is susceptible to tooth decay, fluoride treatments and fissure sealants will be offered as a treatment option.
Referrals
In certain cases, we do refer patients to colleagues who have special skills. These include orthodontists (tooth straightening), periodontists (advanced gum disease), endodontists (for complex root canal fillings), implantologists (for implants), consultant oral surgeons for wisdom tooth removal, complex extractions and jaw problems.
